The YMCA has been part of life in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1854. They are a charity dedicated to strengthening the foundations of communities through their core programs of Health, Fitness, and Aquatics; Child Care and Day Camp; and Employment, Enterprise, and Newcomer Services.

The Challenge

YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador had a website that was over seven years old and was not using any type of content management system, meaning that content updates required knowledge of FTP, HTML, and PHP and were quite time-consuming. Their site was also not responsive and was not very usable on mobile devices, which accounted for over 56% of their traffic.

The Solution

We created a new, responsive website using WordPress. The new site is clean, modern, and allows room to grow as YMCA-NL expand their operations across the province. Colour coding is used to quickly distinguish content for each region’s operations and breadcrumbs are used to allow visitors to quickly orient themselves within the site. Program guides no longer require downloading a PDF – now using colour-coded text-based tables.

Overall site traffic has doubled and organic search traffic is up over 200% from the same period last year while each visitor now stays three times longer than they used to.
